Lian Heng Pan Mee is said to be the best in Subang Jaya – there used to be a massive queue at the SS19 stall where you need to take a number and wait patiently for your noodles. Apparently, the owners sold off the business and owner’s son reopened Lian Heng Pan Mee in USJ 1.
rif and I paid them a visit recently to see what the hype was about. We didn’t try the original one in SS19 so I can’t give you a fair comparison on both. We were there around 9.30am so getting a table was fairly quick. Our wait time wasn’t long either – around 15 minutes.
That said, I found the pan mee very disappointing. The noodles (hand-pinched only) were overcooked to a point the sides were borderline mushy. While the anchovy-based soup was pretty good, it didn’t and couldn’t mask the fact that the noodles were soggy.
More disappointing was the dry style pan mee, as the overcooked noodles were tossed in a sweetish sauce that did little to flavour the dish. Not something I would recommend ordering. The chili sambal is however, pretty good. This was fiery and really added “oomph” to the otherwise average tasting noodles. If I remember correctly, a large bowl costs RM7, which isn’t too pricey.
All things considered, I wouldn’t rank Lian Heng Pan Mee as my top pan mee places to go to. This was mediocre at best.
Ambiance: 6/10
Price: 6.5/10
Food: 5/10 (non halal)
Verdict: While Lian Heng Pan Mee has its own fan base, I find it very average.
